I had been a full time sub-guide in the state of Nevada for 12 years before starting Nevada High Ridge Outfitters in 2006. I am co-owner of Nevada High Ridge Outfitters. For the last 16 years I have been a full time Master Guide. Between my sub-guiding and being a Master Guide I have 26 years of experience guiding in the state of Nevada. This has given me the opportunity to hunt all over the state of Nevada. I have successfully guided clients, family, and friends to Nevada record book animals for California sheep, Desert sheep, Mule deer, Antelope, Mountain lion, and Elk. In the past 26 years I have been on over 120 successful sheep hunts. With the amount of time I have spent with clients, I have learned what they expect and what it takes to make a successful hunt.
As an avid bow hunter I have harvested many big game animals with a bow. I know and understand what it takes to archery hunt and I also have experience with a muzzleloader. I have hunted with 12 heritage tag holders for the State of Nevada for California Sheep, Desert sheep, Elk and Antelope. This has given me the opportunity to hunt in most of the units in the state. I successfully guided 2 hunters to 2 of the oldest rams to ever be harvested in the state of Nevada.
I love to lion hunt and I have caught well over 300 cats with my dogs. For the last 15 years my business partner, Keith Montes and I have been completing a life long dream of running a first class outfitting business.
I worked in an industrial plant for 21 years and when I left the company, I was the Plant Superintendent. The responsibilities with this position included managing the Production, Lab, Shipping and Labor departments. The experience of running these departments has taught me how to effectively manage, operate and maintain a business. Organization of work, quality people, communication, customer satisfaction, budgeting and planning are key components to running an effective business.
Having been born and raised in Nevada, hunting has always been a big part of my life. I have hunted all over the state of Nevada since I was a child. I was a licensed sub-guide for 5 years before starting Nevada High Ridge Outfitters in 2006. Now 11 years later I have been in the guiding industry for 16 years in the state of Nevada. I have successfully guided clients, family, and friends to Nevada record book animals for California Sheep, Desert Sheep, Mule Deer, Antelope, Mountain Lion, and Elk. I have hunted and successfully harvested animals with a bow, muzzleloader and rifle. Knowing and understanding how to hunt with these weapons, gives us the advantage of guiding any hunter.
I have hunted with 11 Heritage tag holders in the State of Nevada. For both California and Desert Sheep, Elk, and Antelope. This has given me the opportunity to hunt in most of the units in the state. I have hunted Red Stag and Bull Tahr in New Zealand, Coues Deer in Mexico, Axis Deer and Mouflon Sheep in Hawaii, Alaska-Yukon Moose and Black Bear in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and South Dakota. These experiences hunting as a client, rather than a guide, has given me an even better perspective into what a client expects. I feel this has made me an even better guide. For the last 11 years my business partner, Gary Coleman, and I have been completing a life long dream of running a first class outfitting business.
I was raised in Lovelock and have lived in Nevada my whole life. Hunting the surrounding areas as I grew up, I developed a strong passion for the outdoors. When my dad started guiding I was introduced to the hunting industry and have always wanted to be a guide. From being around the industry at such a young age, I have been fortunate enough to hunt most of the state of Nevada and successfully hunt every species in Nevada except for the Mountain Goat. During the summers, I run trail cameras and scout as often as possible. This has taught me how to hunt and judge big game animals in the field. From these experiences I have gained much knowledge about big game, the state, and what it takes to be a successful guide.
Recently I have started bow hunting, and in 2018 I harvested my first 200" deer with my bow. Doing this helped me gain an understanding the challenges of hunting big game animals with a bow. For the last 3 years, I have been a licensed sub-guide for Nevada High Ridge Outfitters and continue to guide hunts while studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Now that I am graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree, Gary and my dad have given me the opportunity to spend more time learning how our business operates and help learn how to run our business. I have hunted Red Stag and Bull Tahr in New Zealand, Alaska-Yukon Moose and Black Bear in Alaska, and Axis Deer and Mouflon Sheep in Hawaii. These opportunities have given me the perspective of being the client rather than the guide which in turn, has helped me to be a better guide as well. Since Nevada High Ridge was started, it has been a life goal of mine to be as involved with this outfitting business as I possibly can and I look forward to furthering my career in this industry.
